Curriculum & Instruction

Region 16 is committed to educating students academically, socially, and emotionally to acquire the skills and knowledge to thrive in an ever-changing world.  We believe in the importance of a clearly articulated and comprehensive curriculum that is constantly revised to align with National and State Core Standards.

Our curriculum is created using a “backward design process” where we examine the desired outcomes for each unit of study first.  Based on these outcomes, we identify the standards that students will need to master and design assessments to measure mastery.  Finally, we create the instructional plan.  Each curriculum unit includes the CT Core Standards, Enduring Understandings (Big Ideas), Essential Questions, Concepts & Skills, Learning Activities & Assessments.

Our links below provide resources to help parents understand the standards and our curriculum, and ways that they can support their children in the learning process.
