Assessment

In Region 16, we believe in creating personalized learning opportunities that are differentiated to meet the needs of all learners at all levels. To do so, we must regularly assess students and examine their progress to ensure continuous improvement in both teaching and learning.

We provide two types of assessment:  Formative and Summative

Formative assessments monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback that teachers can use to improve their teaching and for students to improve their learning.  Examples of formative assessments include entrance/exit tickets, daily classwork, running records and homework.

Summative assessments evaluate a student’s learning at the end of a specific unit by comparing it against a standard or benchmark.  Examples include end of unit, semester and end of year assessments as well as the State assessments.
