September News
I'm so pleased with how the children have adjusted to third grade! We have a wonderful combination of personalities and it is just a delightful class! Here's what we'll be doing in each subject over the next few weeks.
MATH: We are learning how to take data and make it into graphs. This is an important skill which the children should catch on to quickly. If your child has not yet mastered the basic addition and subtraction facts, please review them daily. This is so important if we are to move on in math.
LANGUAGE ARTS: Our first theme in third grade is called "Off to Adventure". These stories are exciting. In grammar we will learn how to write good sentences. In writing we'll be working on writing paragraphs that explain and friendly letters.
SCIENCE: We are woking on a unit called Earth Materials. In this unit we will pretend to be geolists and take apart rocks to see what they are made of. We will also study the properties of minerals.
SOCIAL STUDIES: Our study of geography will include learning about maps, globes, oceans, continents and various land forms. Your child will have a study sheet in his or her Social Studies folder. This should be studied often throughout the chapter.
I'm looking forward to meeting all of you at Meet the Teacher night on September 21. If you have any questions before then, please feel free to contact me.
